I was really hoping we were going to turn a corner today, but Ben had other plans. Todays napping got worse. He only slept for 20 minutes this morning and then 15 minutes during his next nap. I have decided to quit letting him cry it out once he wakes up because it doesn't seem to be working and I can't handle listening to him cry anymore.
Ben was A-OK with quitting!
After only 35 minutes of napping by the early afternoon he was exhausted so I let him sleep in my lap for the next hour. I love holding a sleeping baby which probably has a lot to do with the problems we have now. I have decided from now on I am going to try to be home for as many of his naps as possible and always put him in his crib. If he wakes up soon after then I will try to get him to go back to sleep and if he ends up falling asleep in my arms I am going to go put him in his bed. Hopefully with time he will start sleeping longer.
Many people have suggested only having him nap twice a day. That would be great, but it just doesn't seem possible at this point. After only a 30 minute nap he is tired again only an hour later. I try to keep him awake as long as I can which is about 2 hours, so by the end of the day he ends up needing one more nap in the late afternoon.
I am very happy that we did accomplish one goal this week and that is him being able to go to sleep in his bed on his own at nap time.

Well he sure is a handsome little dropout! Give yourself the weekend off and see what happens. Ben may decide naps are a good thing...hopefully!
Dana,
I love the top picture! He has that look of gotcha about the napping thing. So very cute!!
